Great experience, just wish the interest rates were higher so we could keep the CD we had years back., October, 2016

We have banked with BofA ever since we got married in 2004, so 12 years now. The checking account has no fees and neither does the savings as long as you maintain the minimum, so that is good. We took out the Amex credit card for a while but that did have fees and we weren't really using it, so cancelled it and we keep separate cards in another bank. Wish that we weren't charged fees on the Amex even if we don't use it much and we pay it on time. We had a CD account years back that was paying us $200 a month, but a dip in interest rates caused us to earn almost nothing on that account so we closed it. That may be due to rates set by the feds as well, however. Customer service experience has always been great -- friendly people and quick response. In addition, BoFA is very good at emailing alerts for things like low balance or promotions. Good communication to customers. Overall positive.

My experience with the bank was driven by convenience and has been sustained by laziness., October, 2016

I began banking with Bank of America in late 2001. I was new to the area and the previous bank at which I had done my banking, citibank, did not at the time have any branches available. I was living out in the suburbs of a northeastern city at the time and didn't have a car. The only bank within walking distance from my home was a bank that would later be purchased and folded within the Bank of America empire. So I started off with a regional US bank and ended up with a multinational bank, a giant faceless corporation.

The branch experience where I was living was quite good. The bank agent was friendly, I recall, and in addition to recommending savings and checking accounts for me suggested some certificates of deposit I also might be interested in. For a few years I did put money into CDs at Bank of America as well. But for the last few years I have exclusively used Bank of America for checking and savings.

The main reason I wish to change banks is self-interested: the interest paid on savings accounts at Bank of America is pathetic. But I'd also like to shift my banking to a more socially responsible, preferably local bank. I am looking into the possibility of moving some or all of my money to a credit union near where I work.

my bank is conveniently located with friendly staff willing to help., December, 2016

I initially applied to this particular bank because of it also being the bank of my family. Over the past few years I could have switched banks to another chain, but the services provided are comparable to others along with the added bonus of being able to walk in and speak with people able to effect changes to my accounts as needed without having to deal with much or any over the phone or mail correspondence. While interest rates may be a touch on the low side when compared to some of their competitors it is generally by a low margin and being able to get in touch with decision makers directly when needed trumps the few extra dollars at the end of the year. Being my family's bank it has always been easy to move money between family members and the few times that we've had an error it was fixed quickly without needing us to hound anyone. My one gripe would be their punitive overdraft fees, but that's an issue with many banks and I have since solved that issue with an 'overdraft protection' account along with linking my savings with my checking in case of such an event in the future.
