Citizens bank is very hard to work with and needs a new employee training program., October, 2016

My experience with Citizens bank has been full of their failures and communication problems. Trouble started from the beginning when I had to fight tooth and nail to get the $150 promotion offer for opening an account there. Employees at the local bank could not help me at all and referred me to corporate and they seemed to have zero answers for me and referred me to the local bank. This nonsense went on for close to a year until I got the issue resolved and recieved the $150 promotion eight months late. Other issues that surfaced were charges and fees that I was charged. Once again the local bank referred me to corporate only to have corporate tell me the employee at the local bank had screwed things up so bad that I couldn't get the charges fixed because of how all the info was put into the account. The person I delt with from corporate was blown away at how untrained and clueless the local employee had to be in order to screw things up so badly. Finally, my biggest complaint and reason I would not recommend this bank to anyone is the fact that I have caught employees at the local branch in lies several times. This includes telling me they talked to a manager about a issue I am having and did no such thing and telling me they did something to help figure a issue out when they did not. In closing, I can not give this bank any type of positive recommendation to another person looking for a new bank. If I thought that these issues and problems were isolated to just my local branch I might not be so hard on the bank, but it seems to me to be a larger issue involving the training program this financial institution employees, so do yourselves and loved ones a favor and stay away from this bank.

They have been very easy to work with and very helpful with any problems I have had., October, 2016

I came over to Citizen's Bank in Buffalo, NY after having multiple terrible experiences with my last bank. The signup process for a checking account was very simple and they had a number of options that I could choose to take. I chose a simple checking account that had only one condition. As long as I made one deposit every month, I would avoid a simple $2.99 charge on my account. I think that is a fantastic option for people. It has a fairly low interest rate, but most checking accounts do and I wasn't going to have enough in that account to make a difference. Their customer service has always been very helpful with me when I call them and I have not run into any issues that we could not resolve.

    A bank that's like family, November, 2016

I have been a loyal customer of Citizens Bank since the day I opened my first PassBook savings account at age 12, to today, where I use it for my checking and online savings needs. I have always enjoyed their above standard customer service; either in person or on the phone. The people are always friendly, polite, incredibly helpful and advising, and sometimes, [in person] they even remember who you are (even if they've only seen you a couple times). The employees make you feel like you are a respected member of the Citizens Bank family. I also admire the smooth ease of opening an account. There is the standard way of going directly to the bank, but they also incorporated opening an account via online. It was such a convenience for me, who had worked third shift and rarely had time for errands during the day, because all I had to do was fill out the appropriate information online, wait for the documents to arrive in the mail (which on took a couple days), and then hand it off to someone in the bank. No fuss. The interest rates of the bank are standard; I've never had an issue. When I had experienced identity theft, they were very quick in canceling my cards and issuing me a new one, free of charge. Some banks will actually charge you for a new card, but not Citizens. The branches and their ATMs are practically everywhere, so it's easy to get access to money at any time of day. They also have an app that gives you real-time updates of every one of your account balances. Since Citizens participate in POP accounts, you can also send money to others with just a push of a button. My only concern with Citizens Bank is that their fees are a bit high. The overdraft fee averages $26. If you have a standard online savings account, you must have $200 or more in the account at all times, or face a monthly charge of $5 for the money dipping below the required amount. I'd always found this charge to be rather unreasonable -- especially since it's a savings account -- and hope they would someday remove it. Other than those concerns, I do love the company. I have been with them and they have been with me for most of my life. Even when I was being heavily persuaded to switch to another bank, I stayed with Citizens. I trust them.

My experience has been neither bad nor great with this bank., December, 2016

This bank is not too bad. The tellers in the physical locations are very nice when you go in. I am not a fan of the new interface that they implemented on their website. It is not as intuitive as it used to be. Their interest rates, both for accounts such as checking or saving, as well as for their loans could be a lot better. They are not competitive with rest of the market. Due to this reason, I keep most of my money in online banks with higher interest rates. The main reason I use them is because they have physical branches close to my home. They need to fix their hours of operation as well. Having a bank close at four PM clearly shows they don't care about their customers like they claim to. Be open when people can get there.

My experience has been mostly positive, with a few mis-steps here and there., December, 2016

(My bank is in Niagara Falls, NY, part of Citizens Bank NA, based in Rhode Island)

I picked Citizens mostly because of convenience; we have a local chain of supermarkets in our area, and Citizens has a supermarket branch in almost all of them. The hours at these branches are a more flexible 11am to 7pm, along with weekend hours as well. I'd say my biggest issue with Citizens is the fees that seem to come out of nowhere. For example, I made several purchases that I knew would be covered by what I had in the bank, along with a direct deposit that would show up the next day. But Citizens will tend to process charges "whenever they feel like it," which has caused a couple of overdrafts. Fortunately, they were well spaced apart, and forgave the most recent ones. I also opened a savings account, but was blindsided by a monthly fee that I wasn't told about, and wasn't charged for the previous two months. So their communication to customers and workers could be better. If it weren't for the fact that I like being able to bank after normal hours and having accounts that auto-pay, I might not be so loyal anymore.

Very positive: I get great service when I need it and have had few problems, December, 2016

I came to Citizens Bank 15 years ago because they offered me a home refinance at a good rate at the time, and I saved a quarter point if I also opened a checking account with them. I subsequently opened some small business accounts with them. The local rep we have worked with has always been great - efficient and knowledgeable. I hardly ever wait in much of a line at the branch when I do anything personally and I find their online banking easy to use for the most part (and it has improved substantially over the years). Citizens' branches are fairly plentiful in Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire where I am most of the time. They are my primary and only bank, and every time I have a financial need I go to them first. Unless I move to a location that does not have Citizens branches , I can not imagine changing banks. Very happy with them overall.

My experience has been overall positive. They offer good customer service and few problems., December, 2016

I've had multiple accounts with this bank and almost everything has gone smoothly. The only issues I've had were with some slow processing times and some of the staff in the branches are rather slow but overall it's fine.

I do most of my interacting with the bank online and that works very well. The online banking products are simple and reliable for both my personal and business account needs.

I've had to open and close a few different accounts over the years and never had any problem doing so.

Most of my interactions with depositing via their mobile app have been very quick, which is much appreciated. I also like the ability to have electronic only copies of statements etc because I don't need paper versions of those things that would just have to be shredded.

Security has been fine and it's a good bank overall.
